Toolbox talk
A practical look at composite decking, maintenance, durability and design flexibility.
Answer first
The short answer comes first. The construction detail and important exceptions follow through the guide.

Yes. We can review ideas, measurements, materials and practical detailing, and identify where drawings, engineering, certification or specialist trade input is required.
Wavelength Concepts is based in Terrigal and works across the Central Coast, with selected Sydney projects where the scope suits the business.
Practical guide
Composite decking can be a strong fit for busy households and exposed sites. It resists rot and termites and does not require the regular oiling associated with hardwood.
Technical detail
Board layout, ventilation, expansion allowances, framing accuracy and edge details determine whether a composite deck feels refined. The product is only one part of the finished result.

Why it matters
Composite boards still rely on accurate framing, appropriate joist spacing, ventilation, drainage, expansion allowances and the manufacturer's fixing system. Ignoring those details can create movement, trapped moisture or untidy edges regardless of the board warranty.
Colour, heat underfoot, slip, board length, fascia details and how visible fixings are treated should be reviewed on real samples. Our Terrigal Ekodeck rebuild shows why structure and surface need to be planned together.
Putting it into practice
Ekodeck avoids the sanding and oiling associated with natural timber, but it still needs regular cleaning. Leaf litter, food, oils and organic growth should be removed using current manufacturer guidance.
Composite is not automatically the right answer for every home. Compare it with timber on appearance, repairability, initial price, heat, maintenance and the architecture of the property. Our deck pricing and maintenance guides explain those trade-offs.
