Project thinking

Geometry first. Flawless material junctions at the finish.

Rise, going, pitch, headroom, landings, balustrades and floor transitions are set out as one circulation system before timber species and finishing details are locked in. We resolve dimensions, materials, junctions, access and finishes before construction so the completed work feels intentional rather than added on.

You deal directly with Zach throughout the project, keeping communication clear and the standard of workmanship consistent from the structural work through to the final carpentry detail.

Construction detail

Detail that holds up over time.

Good staircase work is as much about what sits behind the finished surface as what you see. Substrates, fixings, movement, drainage, ventilation, weather exposure and future maintenance are considered early—not left as problems for later.

Our work combines the practical knowledge of a licensed builder with the finish-first mindset of a carpenter and joiner. That is especially valuable where structural construction and visible detailing meet in the same project.

Material logic

Material choices made for the site.

Materials are selected for more than colour. We consider durability, coastal exposure, movement, maintenance, compatibility with the existing building and how each junction will be finished. Samples and practical options can be reviewed before the final scope is set.

We work across Terrigal, Avoca Beach, Wamberal, Gosford and surrounding Central Coast suburbs, with selected projects in Sydney where the scope suits our detailed approach.

04

Site performance

A clear path from idea to completion.

The process starts with a conversation about the site, the result you want and any drawings or inspiration already available. From there we can inspect the property, clarify the scope, identify approval or engineering requirements and prepare a detailed quotation.

During construction, decisions stay connected to the whole project. You work directly with the builder responsible for the outcome, with changes and practical constraints discussed before they affect the finished work.

Build sequence

Custom timber staircases and balustrades.

A staircase is a structural element used every day and often one of the most visible pieces of joinery in a home. We design around rise, going, headroom, circulation, available space and the proportions of the surrounding architecture before resolving species and finish.

Options can include solid timber treads, closed or open risers, traditional or contemporary strings, glass or timber balustrades, feature handrails and storage integrated beneath the stair. Our carpentry and joinery experience allows the structural and furniture-like details to be coordinated together.

What to compare

Redesigning an existing staircase.

An existing staircase may be rebuilt to improve appearance, safety, comfort or the use of surrounding space. The first step is to document the current geometry and identify what can be retained without compromising the new design.

Timber species, grain direction, tread thickness, nosing profiles, balustrade spacing and transitions into the upper and lower floors all affect the finished result. These details are developed before fabrication wherever possible.

07

Planning your project

What determines staircase cost and lead time.

The main cost drivers are geometry, floor-to-floor height, structural support, timber selection, open or closed risers, stringer design, balustrade system, finishing method, access and how much surrounding floor, wall or ceiling work must be altered. Curved or turning stairs and mixed timber, steel and glass assemblies need more design and fabrication coordination than a straightforward closed stair.

For a useful first review, provide plans if available, floor-to-floor height, opening dimensions, photographs above and below the stair, preferred material references and whether the surrounding floors are also changing. Final geometry and compliance still need to be confirmed from measured site and project documentation.

Clear answers

Frequently asked questions.

Practical starting points for planning the work. Project-specific advice is confirmed after reviewing the site and scope.

01

Can a staircase be made to fit an unusual space?

Yes. Custom staircases are designed around the measured opening, floor-to-floor height, circulation and applicable geometric requirements rather than a standard kit size.

02

What timber species can be used?

American Oak, Blackbutt, Spotted Gum and other suitable hardwoods can be considered. Selection depends on appearance, availability, stability, finish and how the stair relates to surrounding flooring and joinery.

03

Can you rebuild an existing staircase?

Yes. Existing stairs can be assessed for redesign or reconstruction where improved geometry, finishes, balustrades or integrated storage are required.

04

Can glass balustrades be incorporated?

Glass, timber and metal balustrade systems can be coordinated with the stair design. Engineering, fixing locations, handrail requirements and applicable safety rules need to be resolved before fabrication.

05

Can storage be built under a staircase?

Often, yes. Drawers, cupboards, shelving or concealed storage can be designed around the available structure and access, provided the stair and surrounding services allow it.
